How will taxes work?

As a Freelancer, you are responsible for paying all of your own taxes. Cadre will not withhold any taxes from your event pay. Each year, by the statutory deadline, if you received payments in excess of $600, Cadre will send you and the IRS a 1099-MISC documenting your total event pay for the prior tax year.
